Mississippi Series

In the summer of 2000, I began photographing in Como, Mississippi.  I immediately formed a bond with Sheila Birge and musician R.L. Boyce.  They welcomed me into their home, drove me around Como, introduced me to people and invited me to family gatherings during the holidays, family reunions and picnics.  The time in Como has impacted and enriched my life.  I have experienced many major events - some very difficult ones, which come with the territory of spending so much time in a community.  Como has become my second home.  These are images of my extended family.
